Hoofin' it to White Oak Farm

Did you know that a horse is measured by how many hands tall they are? Or that their gestation period is eleven months? They can also live well into their 30’s and they all share the same birthday, January 1st, no matter what day of the year they’re born! Horses are amazing animals that need lots of care and attention and White Oak Farm specializes in just that.

Since 1997, White Oak Farm has served West Tennessee as a full-service boarding and breeding facility. Owned by Robert and Lisa Marbry who had been in the Walking Horse business for many years. When they were first getting settled in Rosemark, “it took two or three years to get the barns built,” Lisa mentioned and they’ve added on since then. They currently have a large barn to board horses in, several paddocks, including a lighted outdoor riding arena, and a breeding barn.

Sammy Sanders works with Robert and Lisa and has been the Farm Manager at White Oaks since 2003. He helps with keeping everything running as smoothly as possible on the 40-acre farm. Sammy handles everything from taking care of the horses to putting up Christmas lights, which they shoot to have up by Thanksgiving every year.

White Oak Farm offers full boarding, something a lot of barns don’t offer. This means that all of the horses have their own stall that is 12 by 15 feet. Stalls also contain an automatically heated waterer and are cleaned every day excluding Sundays. The horses are also fed twice a day and can be turned out to the pastures at the owner's request. Lisa wants people to be able to “come out and enjoy their horse without all the work.”

White Oak Farm is very passionate about their role in breeding horses. They enjoy knowing that the foals that come out of the breeding program are the product of having taken care of mares that birthed them. Lisa finds, “that there’s nothing more rewarding than to help a mare foal. I think to have the baby come and know you’ve been a little part of that; it’s really challenging yet gratifying.” The breeding lab has state of the art equipment and the foaling stalls have video cameras that can be monitored 24/7 from Lisa's house. Sammy and Lisa have made a commitment that White Oak Farm will take every possible measure to increase the odds of conception.

When asked what breeds were at the farm Sammy told us “We’ve got every breed you can imagine here right now.” He and Lisa stated that they currently have Walking horses, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Pony of the Americas, and Appaloosa’s. Sammy continued saying, “it doesn’t matter what breed it is. If you need a place to take care of your horses and want them taken care of well, then this is the place you're looking for.”

White Oak Farm takes a lot of pride in what they do. They strive to make sure any experience with White Oak Farm is above and beyond expectations. Sammy Sanders, Robert, and Lisa Marbry know that it's a big investment when it comes to horses and taking care of them. Lisa loves the horses on her farm and really wants “people to be proud of how their horses are being taken care of here. I just try to treat them like their my own.”
