Chocolate Sugar Puffs

Ingredients:

½ cup shortening

1 ⅔ cup sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 eggs

2 squares chocolate (or 5 Tablespoons cocoa)

⅓ cup milk

2 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup nuts (optional)

Powdered confectioner’s sugar

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar.  Beat eggs and add to shortening and sugar.  Add melted chocolate. Sift dry ingredients.  Add to mixture alternately with milk. Add nuts.  Chill 3 hours. Roll in balls, then drop in confectioner’s sugar and roll.  Bake on greased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Cookies will be soft when warm.
