A Northern/Midwestern tradition is slowly making its way down into the South and it has taken over college campuses and cities throughout the area. The history of cornhole is hotly debated and it is not clear who was the first person to start throwing corn filled bags onto raised playing boards with a hole in them. However, this has become something that many family gatherings, parties, or camping trips would be incomplete without.

So what is cornhole?
Cornhole is a game that requires 2 people or 2 teams of 2, these participants will be throwing 4 corn filled bags per team at a sloped board. There should be 2 boards and they should be 4 ft. long, 2 ft. wide, 4 in. tall, and prop the side with the hole 12 in. above the ground in accordance with the American Cornhole Association. The hole of a board should have a diameter of 6 in. and be 9 in. from the top and 12 in. from both side of the board, meaning it should be dead center. This is one of the more challenging games to learn, you have to know proper throwing technique and the strategy behind it, but it is bagfuls of fun when you get the hang of it.

What are the rules of this game?
The rules are simple when you are throwing you need to stand beside your board and your feet should not pass the front of the board, crossing the line results in a penalty and the loss of the bag. The boards need to be 27 ft away from each other which adds to the difficulty of the sport. Scoring is somewhat simple, getting a bag on the board is worth 1 point and getting a bag in the hole is worth 3 points.  The main thing to keep in mind is that the points are kept as a difference of the score from the turn, so if you get 2 on and 2 in and the other team gets 2 in and 1 on you are in the lead by 1 point. The first team to 21 points is the winner.
