A Stroll Through the Story
In early 2017, Braden United Methodist Church out of Braden, TN decided to invite all the area churches to join in what is now known as A Walk Through the Story. Ten churches from the area (that typically were separated by denomination as well as race) decided to participate. During that year, they wrote the program, built the lecterns & buildings that “housed" each the scenes, and gathered costumes and props to make this idea a beautiful event for people all across the surrounding area to come, walk, and interact with the nativity story. Now, for 2018 even more churches are participating along with the original 10.
The program consists of 6 scenes portraying the events leading up and including the birth of Christ. Also included is an introductory narrative of the prophecy of Isaiah foretelling of the virgin birth. The final scene portrayed the traditional nativity scene. The scenes are as follows: 1- Mary's visit from the Angel, 2- The Angel appearing to Joseph in a dream, 3- Mary and Joseph at the Inn, 4- Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus in the stable, 5-The Angel appearing to the shepherds in the field and joined by the multitude of Angels, and 6- The Wisemen seeing the star and deciding to go.
Visitors arrive at The Marketplace where they are register (as decreed by Caesar Augustus) and participate in the approximate 20 Biblically dressed guide led strolls through The Story. Golf carts carry visitors that are unable to walk the journey. The groups stop at each spotlit scene where a Biblically dressed narrator reads the scripture and short narration about the scene.
The path is lit by tiny lights along the ground. The Pavillon is enclosed with tarps and heated with patio heaters and is decorated to represent a Biblical Marketplace. Due to the cold other heaters are even placed along the trail and close to the scenes. Visitors can enjoy the company of others while refreshments of hot chocolate and cookies are served with true holiday cheer.
For 2018 and years to come the date has been moved to early December! “We chose to open the Christmas season with a reminder of the True Meaning of Christmas.” A Stroll Through The Story will be open and ready for visitors 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, Dec. 7 & Sat.
