Back Yard Fill-Up
Sinclair Oil is one of the oldest and most well-known names in the oil business. It was all started by Harry F. Sinclair in 1916 and expanded rapidly from there. Now, you can take a step back in time and visit a gas station made to look like it’s from the 1930’s. Located at 1056 Beaver Road in Munford, TN, in the backyard of Mark Glidewell and Pamela Chism's home, is a newly built antique Sinclair Gasoline and Service station. It was a dream of Mark’s for quite awhile, and now that dream is sitting in their very own backyard.
The project began last summer in September of 2016. Mark and Pamela have put their hearts into this treasure, and it shows. They have continually added new pieces to the gas station over the past year. Some of these pieces include antique gas pumps from the 1930’s and 1940’s, with some painted and some left untouched in their original state. It also features antique signs, including the green sign with big white letters reading “SINCLAIR.” On the very top of the station sits the iconic, green dinosaur, “Dino,” which Sinclair first used way back in 1930. Pamela is very proud of what their hard work and dedication has created. “All of this isn’t for me,” Pamela explained. “It’s for [Mark]. He has put his heart into this project.”
With lights illuminating all of the antique pieces (Pamela joked, “At night, it looks like we have a football field in our backyard!”), it is definitely a sight that you don’t have the chance to see every day. Stop by and revisit history - they always welcome visitors!
