California, here they come! Munford High School Band Goes to the Rose Bowl Parade.

California, here they come!

What a perfect time to announce spectacular news! On September 16th, Mayor Dwayne Cole had the grand opportunity to announce that the Munford High School Marching Band has been asked to participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2019, in Pasadena, California.

While bittersweet for this year’s seniors, the thrill of the band members, and the alumni of the organization is huge. Their work, through blood, sweat, and tears, has contributed to the national recognition that Munford is receiving.

The MHS Band has enjoyed incredible success over their past seasons, winning Grand Championships and Best in Class awards many times over. In the 2011-2012 season, they became the USSBA National Champions, performing in the U.S. Naval Academy Stadium in Annapolis, MD. The 2016-2017 season continued the Band’s traditions as they took a 10th [18th total] consecutive Bandmasters Championship in the Liberty Bowl, and marched in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, where the news media dubbed them “The big band from a small town”. "The entire band is honored for the invitation and will proudly represent Tipton County and the great state of Tennessee on the West Coast in 2019!", said David Duncan, Vice President of the MHS Band Boosters.

Over the years, the Munford Band Boosters have organized huge fund drives for the band when their efforts have given them a chance to shine in the national spotlight. This event will be no exception - and their community, county, and area have always proven that they are extremely proud of the young people that have won the opportunity.

Ben Kirk, MHS Band Booster President commented, “It takes a supportive and caring community to make these opportunities available to our students, and we are honored and appreciative to receive support. We hope that you will join forces with us through our sponsorship program. We sincerely appreciate whatever support you can provide. Thank you in advance for your continued support, and with your help, we will continue to have “A Tradition of Excellence,” and continue to make history through the talented students of the Munford High School Band. See you in Cali!”

There is a pledge match that was announced at Celebrate Munford - Admiral Custom Roofing will match up to the first $20,000 in donations by businesses to start the campaign rolling!
