Tillie's Molasses Cookies

Ingredients:

3/4 cup shortening

1/4 cup molasses or sorghum

1 cup sugar

1 egg

½ teaspoon cloves

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon ginger

½ teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 cup flour

Directions:

Melt shortening and cool.  Add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well.  Sift together flour, salt, baking soda and spices.  Add to first mixture. Mix all well. Chill several hours or overnight.  Roll in small balls, roll in sugar (use both white sugar and the sugar sparkle crystals that you can get at Christmas time!), don’t flatten.  Bake at 350* for 8 to 10 minutes. They should be chewy. Do not overbake.
