Year in Review: 2019 Cypress Restaurants
Here is a tasty insight to our 2019 restaurants!
January/February: Pig-N-Out
““If you come through our door - you’re family.” That’s what the owner, Tammy Hrner, of Pig-N-Out told us as we sat down to have a conversation about her restaurant in Halls, TN. “We cook it with love,” which means the BBQ is cooked on the pit slowly, 8-10 hours on an outdoor pit, “We’re old school. charcoal and hard labor, and you can taste it! There are no electrical cookers here, it’s slow, slow, slow, which is why It’s all moist and fresh,” Horner explained.”
March/April: Olympic Steak & Pizza
“The newest restaurant in Arlington has a long history in West Tennessee. The youngest of four restaurants now owned by the Tom Sinis family, the Arlington Olympic is the culmination of hard work, and, hopefully, perfect timing.”
May: Shelby Forest General Store
“When you walk through the doors of the Shelby Forest General Store, you’ll see Doug and Kristin Ammons. They’re the owners of this small piece of “Heaven on Earth.” You’ll see wooden floors, uneven and creaky; shelves of merchandise, a kitchen, bar stools, booths, and a front porch where the neighborhood can get together.”
June/July: Sweet Jordan’s
“Paris, Tennessee is home to a special shop with the best ice cream, baked goodies, and coffee around. Sweet Jordan’s opened in 2017, the special people who run this shop have a tasty story to tell!”
June/July: The Outpost at Pickwick Dam
“When Jay and Cher Harrison started over, they tried to ‘make a difference where they were.’ When Jay saw a need in the community for a restaurant, for jobs in the community, and he’d always been led to do something in the restaurant industry—although he’d never done it before.”
August/September: The Second Burger Tour
“The cornerstone of cuisine in the New World...the DNA of the American restaurant experience...a backyard legend...THE BURGER. Since the beginning of culinary times, the mighty burger has withstood harsh criticism to become the quintessential food of choice for millions of people for many generations. We decided to also pay homage to the genius that is the burger by taking you on a tour of the top burger joints in the area.”
October: Papa Daddy’s
“Mercer, Tennessee has a gem of a new family restaurant. It’s in a recently renovated building that sat unused for the past fourteen years. Owner Angie Upton saved the building and opened a tribute to her father, Papa Daddy’s.”
November: The Old Country Store
“Opening in 1965, the Brooks Shaw and Son Old Country Store has become one of West Tennessee’s most treasured attractions. The Old Country Store is a part of Casey Jones Village, but it wasn’t always this way. “We like to think we are carrying on the legacy of Brooks Shaw,” Clark, his son and the CEO of the family business, told us.”
December: Top O’ the River
“There’s a confusing quote one of my high school teachers once wrote on the board during class. It said something along the lines of this Aristotle quote, “The more you know, the more you know you don't know.” This is what you don’t know: Top O’ the River has some of the finest catfish and seafood around.”
