A Home to Share
It’s not every couple who decides to sell their paid-for home after 27 years, tackle a new mortgage and move to a new home just to have room to share, but that’s just what this couple did! They wanted more room for the families to get together, and room for sharing. “We’re making this the fun house, for our families, my side and his side, to have Thanksgiving, all the Holidays,” Deanna Coscia explained, “it’s just what we wanted to do!” The couple wanted to be sure that they could help their parents as well, adding room if they were needed. It’s a good thing they did, the first addition to the home was a wing for Frankie’s parents, Frank and JoAnne Coscia. “Frankie’s Dad is struggling with dementia, so it just made sense to bring them here.” Deanna added. Frank and JoAnne have been married for 67 years, and it’s a blessing to have them at home, together, and be able to help them stay together.”
Deanna and Frankie have a big heart for their family. The land that they bought between Hickory Wythe and Rossville, along with their house, now has two horses, Ginger and Luke, and a Jerusalem Donkey named Taco to occupy it, along with a big pond that sets the view in the backyard. The couple also extended their outdoor living space. “Frankie likes to hunt and fish, and so do our boys, outside is a big part of our life!” Deanna smiled as she showed us her beautiful new wrap around patio on the back, overlooking the pond.
The interior of the home is built in different levels, adding interest to an open floor plan. The kitchen is very spacious, which is good when you are cooking up a celebration for several families! “We just finished redoing the kitchen, painted the whole house, and have had so much fun with it. This home has several features that really caught my eye. We have dogs, so the stamped concrete floors are really great when you are dealing with dogs that shed.” Deanna laughed as she continued, “We know the original owners, we were glad that this was such an easy keeper!” Another thing that really meant a lot was that all of the headers over each of the doors had a blessing written on the wood as it went into place. “Those blessings will be there forever,” Frankie added. “This house is a home that people can come to when they need to have a piece of quiet, or a place to relax.” The floors are a little different in most of the rooms. The original owners had a concrete company, so different styles were easy to make. The kitchen has a flagstone stamped floor, the others are stained in different shades.
The light that shines through the back portion of their home is magnificent. With a fireplace as a focal point in the living room, the high ceilings make it even more expansive. Deanna is a really big JoAnna Gaines fan, and likes her style. “I wanted our home to look like she had been here,” Deanna smiled as she showed us her favorite furniture pieces, of course they are ‘Fixer Upper’ style! Her dining room sports a JoAnna inspired design, including the furniture that was purchased from the Magnolia Group of furniture from Great American Home Store in Memphis. “We didn’t have a lot of furniture when we moved, and I really wanted something that I loved.” Deanna went on to show us several other pieces that she was really proud of, a blue chandelier over her kitchen sink and the shelves in her kitchen, the mantle in her living room and the shelf over their bedroom that also has a double fireplace that is shared with the master bath. “We haven’t really changed a huge amount, more painting than anything else, but we did take a wall down that divided the kitchen from what was originally their office. But we turned that into a family room that let’s the boys show off their hunting trophies.” Frankie and Deanna showed us their favorite rooms.
“We have two beautiful grandchildren and have made up their nursery room for when they come to visit.” Deanna is waiting for them to grow up just a little before she puts more toys in place, “I want them to love everything about it!” Both rooms have vanities that lead into a jack and jill bathroom that will someday let the kids have their own space.
Thank you to the Coscias for allowing us to share their beautiful home and outdoor space. It was truly a beautiful afternoon in the country!
