Holiday Traditions Begin

A Ripley tradition begins this Holiday Season with Veteran’s Day.  A cold day on November 10th began with a parade to honor the Veterans of Lauderdale County, with ages stretching from a 100-year-old WWII Veteran to High Schoolers participating in ROTC.  Not only was the parade festive, but the windows of the businesses and offices around the square showed their support and pride of the men and women who have served with painted USA slogans and red white and blue designs. This year, the Veterans were honored with a meal at the United Methodist Church after the Parade.

“Veteran’s Day is a day we can show our appreciation and respect to all the men and women who have sacrificed themselves in order to ensure the freedoms we are afforded in the United States of America. Americans have a duty to uphold the traditions of patriotism and respect for our county and leaders.” explained Lauderdale County Mayor, Maurice Gaines, Jr., “ The entire society stands on the freedoms and liberties fought for by these heroes.  Thank you for joining me as we honor their sacrifices. Thank you to our Veterans from one who is very proud to be an American.”

The Christmas Tree on the Courthouse Square was festively adorned with red, white and blue ornaments celebrating Lauderdale Counties commitment to their veterans and the families of those who have served with names of the service men and women on the ornaments in the tree.

The lighting of the tree signifies the start of this year’s Christmas Season in Lauderdale County.

Another wonderful tradition is in Lakeland - a treat for the children!

Santa Claus is coming to Lakeland’s Christmas Festival, Friday, Dec. 7, 6-8:30 p.m. at I.H. Clubhouse, 4523 Canada Road.

Santa is expected to arrive at approximately 6:20 p.m., to light the outdoor tree with his Christmas magic.

Afterwards, Santa will set up shop inside I.H. Clubhouse, so he can meet the good little girls and boys of Lakeland and hear all their Christmas wishes.

As children wait anxiously to meet Santa, they can make crafts, have their face painted or visit. Mike the Balloon Man. Children will have the opportunity to make a Christmas Wish List to hand deliver to Santa. After all, we wouldn’t want him to forget what’s on little Johnny’s wish list this year. Who knows, maybe your child will get a return letter from Santa in the mail….

Parents, grandparents, and friends of the family, are invited to share the joy of the holiday season.
